AGUIRRE TEA HOUSE

The Aguirre Teahouse was a real dream project.  The brief was to design and build a sunken hot tub deck that would double as a Teahouse for relaxing rituals and contemplation.  The finest materials were chosen in close consultation with the client; from the ipe decking to the cedar tub and pergola covered in twin-wall polycarbonate.

The most satisfying part was installing a California native live-edge Manzanita post and threshold to create the Tokonoma, or traditional Japanese style alcove, for displaying flower arrangements and as the focal point for tea ceremonies.  Built-in storage was beautifully rendered in Venetian plaster, a bamboo screen installed for privacy and a walkable hot tub cover custom built from Western Red Cedar.
